Building Navy Submarines

Riggs Distler is performing work at Navy Yard in Philadelphia, PA for the new Columbia-class submarine. This nuclear submarine is an upcoming class designed to replace the Ohio Class Ballistic submarine in the United States Navy. A total of 9-10 submarines are planned, with construction of the lead boat planned to begin in 2021. Each submarine will have 16 missile tubes, each carrying one Trident II D5LE missile. The Columbia-class sub will be 560 feet (170.7 m) long and 43 feet (13.1 m) in diameter, as long as the Ohio-class design, and one foot larger in diameter.

This new submarine construction program is the top priority in the United States Navy and for the future of our nuclear deterrent.  Riggs Distler tasks include; new substations and extensions on existing gear, providing duct bank for 85 ton furnace for prop melting; new fire alarm systems; feeders to 100 ton cranes and multiple SU (shaping units) for the unfinished propellers, lighting and maintenance.

We look forward to new endeavors that the program is bringing in the future for best of the country.
